Glossy vs Matte ceramic tiles - how to take good care of each?
Ceramic tiles ( also porcelain tiles )usually come in two types - with glossy or matte finish. In Trade Center “Ideal”, both of them are represented with high-quality brands. However, there still are certain characteristics which need to be considered when choosing between the two.
At first, let's find out the difference between matte and glossy tiles?
Both, the tiles with matte surface and those with glossy surface, are used for veneering the walls, as well as the floors.
They differ in terms of their design and a general visual effect. When it comes to taking care of them, it is relatively easy to do this with glossy tiles; however, it is not recommended to install them in the shower due to the high risk of slips.
Tiles with glossy finish have a more stark and a deeper visual effect. Mirror-like and uniform shine is one of the indicators of high quality. Glossy tiles, as compared to matte ones, are more easily scratched; however, this is delayed in case of high-quality products.
In addition, it is relatively easy to look after glossy tiles; they are not porous. Footprints are very unlikely to be left on them; although, the tiles are slippery, which is something to consider for the interior purposes.
Tiles with matte finish are carved, which makes it harder to look after them. It is not recommended to use matte tiles in the kitchen, in the entrance, in the shops - places which require more frequent cleaning and where more spots are expected. These tiles are a perfect choice for near-the-water areas as the coarse surface is not slippery; they are ideal for installing in pool areas, on balconies, or bathrooms
As it was mentioned, it is much easier to take care of glossy finish surfaces; simply a wet cloth is sufficient for this.
It is not advisable to use unknown liquids and acids, neither on glossy nor on matte finish ceramic or porcelain tiles.
For the purposes of looking after matte tiles, using a thick-pile brush is the best decision. In order to generate more sophisticated visual effects, both finishes can be treated with cleaning liquids which are specially designed for each of them.
