The word “mosaic” derives from Ancient Greek, Latin, and Italian languages.
In Ancient Greek, it refers to a “muse”. This name is dedicated to The Nine Muses of the Greek Mythology. The term “mosaic” carries similar meanings in Latin as well, denoting
work and art devoted to the muse (opus musivum). Later, Italian language has changed this word into “mosaic”, the name familiar to us.
The largest mosaic, which has been entered into the Guinness World Records, is the Hanoi Ceramic Mosaic Mural; this project has been carried out in the city of Hanoi, Vietnam. The length of the mosaic is 4km; its area being 1,570 sq. meters. 48 artists had worked on this design over the period of 3 years.
