Dry and wet drains
Drains can be divided into two types: dry and wet.
Let’s discuss wet drains first (see Picture 1).
A wet drain does not have a locking valve. Instead, the role of a valve is fulfilled by the water which is left in the drain. Therefore, it is recommended to leave the water running after showering, so that the water kept in the drain is as clean as possible. This is important if you have to leave the house for a long period, especially in the summer. In this case, you should clean the drain and fill it up with clean water. Otherwise, upon returning home you may come across a bad odor.
As for the dry drain (see Picture 2), water is not kept in it. However, it is equipped with a valve (see Picture 3) which opens up when water flows down and closes when water stops running. Exactly this valve stops the smell and it does not matter how long the drain remains in a dry condition.
In case of a long drain, the valve’s function is carried out by two balls (see Pictures 4 and 5). When water enters the drain, balls float and let the water pass; once the water is closed, these balls shut the drain channel and by doing so, block an unpleasant odor. Therefore, this type of drain also belongs to the dry drain category.
We leave the choosing of preference to you. However, it should be noted that, no matter the quality of the drain, it will not last long if not cleaned and taken care of.
