Advice from professional workperson: sanitary ware
While doing the maintenance, we frequently come across various faults which had been committed by unprofessional workperson when installing the sanitary ware; this tends to be followed by terrible consequences.
How to differentiate skilled workman/person from incompetent one? or how to avoid the mistakes made by workperson either unintentionally or due to a lack of knowledge? To answer these questions, we have to be aware of several simple specifics provided to us by experienced and competent workmen/person:
1. How high should a washbasin or bathroom furniture be installed?
- The height should be 85cm from the floor tile (see Picture 1); only in Germany, it is placed at 90cm distance.
2. How high should the valves on which washbasin mixer pipes (see Picture 2) are attached be installed?
- The height should be 55cm from the floor tile. The distance between the valves should be 8-10cm (see Picture 2-3)
3. Sewage pipes in which the siphon is placed, should be installed 50cm from the floor tile. It is recommended to fit it in the centre of the valves (see Picture 4-5).
4. Bidet mixer tap should be installed 50cm from the floor tile. In case there is a side wall, it is advisable to position it at 35-40cm length from the wall or the toilet bowl (see Picture 6)
5. In the bathing area, a shower mixer should be installed at 1m or 1.05m height from the floor tile or shower tray (see Picture 7-8).
6. A bath mixer, that is deck-mounted, should be installed at 85cm height from the floor tile. This is because the bath deck tends to be 60cm in height, and sometimes 61cm (see Picture 9-10).
7. As for the bathtub or shower tray, the instruction on dimensions shown in Picture 8 should be followed; it should be installed at 50cm length from the wall, and 10cm from the wall on which the shower mixer is being placed (see Picture 11-12).
9. Lastly, I would like to provide more information on how to properly install pipes for sanitary ware under the floor. It should be remembered that, every pipe, which supplies water to shower mixer or to ceramic sanitary ware, should be ascending from the floor to the wet location.(see Picture 13).
Only under critical situations it is possible to install the pipes parallel to the wall. This should only be carried out if the pipes are positioned at maximum 20cm height from the floor; otherwise, it will lead to unfortunate consequences even when simply installing bathroom accessories (see Picture 14).
All of the suggestions given above apply to standard products. If a certain product has non-standard dimensions, it will definitely be accompanied by the installation instructions. If these are not provided, you should certainly speak to a professional workperson or a salesperson and they will give guidance to you.
